Hearthside Cooking Class

Delve into History

In Colonial times the kitchen was the place where people spent most of their days and evenings. The “heart” of the home, the kitchen was where they prepared the food, ate, worked, visited, read and played.

Come spend some time in the Gibbon House kitchen. Like those times long ago, you will learn how to prepare a meal in the center of the home, the kitchen fireplace. Our Colonial Interpreters will provide a true time demonstration of hearthside cooking that will furnish you with a meal to remember. Dine as the Colonials did in a 1730’s authentic kitchen.

Learn what spiders, cranes, a spit and a reflector oven do to a dinner.

Many early settlers brought seeds of herbs and vegetables with them from their former homes. Learn what is considered old world and new world.
